So you got asked to design a custom font …
Great news! But then the questions start.
Where do you begin?
What should the process look like?
How do you explain interpolation, character sets, and licensing to a client who has never commissioned a font or typeface before?
And maybe the hardest question of all: what should you charge?
Most designers quickly realize that designing the typeface is actually the easy part. Writing a clear proposal, explaining the value of the work, structuring the project, and collecting the right information from the client can be surprisingly difficult.
I’ve been there too.
After getting asked to design custom typefaces for clients, I found myself rewriting proposals from scratch every time. It was slow, inconsistent, and honestly … frustrating. So I started building a system that helped me clearly present the process, pricing, and value of a custom typeface project.
The result is this Custom Typeface Proposal Template, a complete proposal kit with structured slides, pre written copy, and a client intake form designed specifically for type design projects. It’s the exact framework I’ve used to pitch and win high-value custom typeface work.
Everything you need to present, pitch, and onboard clients for custom fonts.
Stop reinventing your proposal for every new client. Adjust the pre-written text to your style, add case studies, and calculate a price.
Start using a system that looks sharp, reads clearly, and works seamlessly.
Prewritten copy
I’ve written out all the text you need for a Custom Typeface Proposal and Intake Form to help you look professional, communicate value, and collect all the client details efficiently, so you can focus on designing typefaces, not the boring paperwork. Simply edit the prewritten text to your liking, add images and case studies and export the file to pdf’s ready to land clients.

Take a look inside
Hi, my name is Viktor Baltus
To be honest, I bought a few traditional branding templates, but they didn’t really work for me, or my clients. I also got tired of all the Lorem ipsum after downloading them. It felt pretty useless. So I built my own system using real, meaningful text that helps explain and structure a custom typeface proposal.
Every section tells a story, communicates usability, and makes the value of a custom typeface and the process of creating one easy to understand. I’ve also included all the text in a separate document, so you can type directly in Pages.
You can use the template with a client intake form and customize it however you want. Using this system, I’ve landed multiple high-profile projects because clients trust the clear, text-driven framework. It turns proposals from static documents into persuasive tools that actually sell, showing that thoughtful communication is just as important as the design itself.
